#7in7

An exercise in creativity. 7 songs, in 7 days.
John Cordes

—leave it all behind

I had high hopes for this one.  But, I really don’t like the chorus.  Perhaps one of you (are there any of you?) would like a co-write credit.  Work up a chorus, and shoot it to me.

Oh…I realize I am a day behind.  I wrote half of this song in 10 minutes yesterday, and finished it today, and wrote half of another today.

Content is king, and I am kinda struggling.  The weekend is the hardest time for me to create.

—Driving North

When tragedy in the way of sin destroys a family, it has far reaching repercussions.  It has reached it’s way inside my home.  This song is my prayer for us to never stop believing the best in one another, to never stop dreaming of better days, to never lose hope.  These are my thoughts for today.

Really unprofessional (not tracked to click), sloppy, and including an out of tune piano.

Very appropriate for this song.

—LOVE IS ALIVE

Day 1.  Many, many interruptions during the day.  And a 3 hour meeting to squash my creativity.  Posting anyways, probably not a keeper, but the rule’s clearly state:

”the goal is not to write 7 amazing songs…it’s simply to start and finish a song to stretch creativity and discipline as a writer.  some of you will have 6 hours in your day to write, others will have 1.  work with what time you have…and don’t be discouraged if every song is not brilliant.”

The sword.

The sword.

Creativity Takes Work

Stephen Pressfield says in his book, “The War of Art”, that creativity is about discipline.  You must work at it.  It doesn’t matter if it sucks or not, it’s the act of creating.  And, as with anything, practice makes perfect.

Not sure I have the perfect song, I am just hoping to be successful in this endeavor.

7 songs in 7 days.  Exercising the creativity muscle.  Here’s to music that hopefully doesn’t suck.
